Barack Obama, the President of the United States, is making it to the gym 6-7X/week for 90 minutes. What a great role model. I mean he could have every excuse to not make it, but he understands the importance that physical fitness plays in his role as the leader of his country. He strongly believes that, “physical fitness yields mental fitness.” The two concepts have been married in his mind ever since says his family and friends. I, too, strongly believe that my mind is much more focused and better apt to perform mental tasks more efficiently when I workout that day.

Friends and family vouch that he treats his workouts like a ritual. He will not miss. He is at the gym
90 minutes, 6 days/week. I mean he could have every excuse in the world to not get there! He also goes first thing in the morning. Which for many people is the best time to go because as the day unfolds, so does your pile of excuses.

What do you think is the number one reason Obama never misses a workout? Well, he says it is his number one stress reliever. I’m sure the guy has many legitimate reasons to be stressed! He also says that it clears his head.

I just think it sends an excellent message when the leader of a country takes his physical health seriously. He knows that being in excellent physical shape will help him to be the best leader he can.

We are all very fortunate to have not only a charismatic leader, but a person that is in top physical health and will therefore be capable of leading the country to the best of his abilities.

Cheers to health,

I came across an excellent article published in the UK involving families. The government is mandating that PE be implemented 2 hrs each week in the schools. The problem is that the children are not getting any slimmer.

A more recent study decided to focus on the families of these children. Parents were educated on changing their entire behavior by eating more healthy foods and the importance of exercise on a daily level.

The results were quite astonishing.

A review of 64 studies involving 5,230 people found that “children lost up to seven pounds through changing their home diet and activities over 12 months.”

I do agree that PE needs to be stressed in the school system as well as at home, but I do see that the growing obesity problem cannot be solely based on the school system. I believe the family unit has the largest impact of the values that children embrace. When parents and/or caregivers engage in healthy behaviors such as buying groceries, cooking healthy meals, and exercising on a daily basis, children will inadvertently grow up to value these behaviors.

Try this: Sit down as a family and discuss some healthy meal options that you would all enjoy. Do the same for physical activities. What do your children suggest? Would they play tag with you? Can you go for a walk or bike ride after dinner each day? What about creating an obstacle course in the yard?

Make this the year to implement CHANGE. This will take time. You will be forming some new family habits. There may be some resistance from your kids at first, since this is something new. However, keep moving forward and you will all benefit.

Now that my children are 5 and 7, I often ask them to choose what they want for dinner. This way I know that they will eat and there are no surprises! They also know that I love to get my exercise so I often chase them around our yard for a game of ‘tag ball.’ Or, we play hide n’ seek in the dark in our basement. It’s great because we are all having a blast and getting exercise at the same time!

They also see me working out in our basement. Often, they will pick up a couple of 5 lb dumbbells and imitate me. It’s really cute. I love that I am inadvertently teaching them the value of exercise.

What can you do today to make a change in your own home?

Cheers to health,

Are you a GRATEFUL person or do you tend to focus on the things that you don’t have? Do your thoughts often reflect a stream of negative, incessant thought all day that keeps repeating itself over and over again?

You may want to listen to what I have to say here because your thoughts may be having a direct effect on just how much exercise you engage in each week!

A very compelling study by psychologists listed in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology stated that “people who kept a weekly gratitude journal exercised up to an 1-1/2 hrs. more per week than their grumbling peers.”

People in the gratitude group had to list up to 5 things they were grateful for each week for 10 weeks. These participants also reported feeling more enthusiastic and determined in general…the combination of these feelings are just FUEL for exercise! This very noteworthy study can be said to imply that having a strong mindset is key to weight loss.

Now, if you have not heard of the Unstoppable Fat Loss Audios…well you are in for a treat. This program is critical to skyrocketing your fat loss success. They are jam packed with key mindset strategies that will transform your thoughts on a daily basis. You will hear amazing stories about people that have achieved incredible fat loss success once they realized their mind needed to change!

In conclusion, I would like you to take some time to reflect on your own daily thoughts. How would you sum up your attitude? Do you wake up grateful? Do you look around and truly see all the positive that surrounds you or do you tend to only focus in on the negative?

Obviously, having an ‘Attitude of Gratitude’ will get you closer to your ideal weight. So go and get yourself a small notebook and begin reflecting on all the greatness you have already in your life! You may begin with being grateful for the gift of ’sight’ to be able to read this…

Cheers to health,

Did you know that most Americans will consume over 4500 calories at this Thanksgiving dinner?!
Does that sound crazy to you? It should! Now that you are AWARE of the ‘over eating’ and high calories that tend to take place, make yourself accountable and stick to a plan.

I suggest that you enjoy your dinner. Have a glass of wine or two…enjoy the food. Enjoy doesn’t mean stuff yourself silly! Remember to keep the gathering about catching up with family/friends, it’s not all about the food! Likely, however, you will be taking in a higher amount of calories than you are used to.

Okay, so more importantly…what is your plan of action to burn off those extra calories?! Thanksgiving DAY (notice it’s only 1 day) does not mean you go off of your workout and nutrition plan for a week! So…will you fit in an extra day of cardio to burn off those extra calories? Will you go for a brisk walk? Maybe you can get creative and fit in another workout day? Or, you can eat really clean for the rest of the week.

Are you looking for that motivational burst to get you excited and pumped to workout each day?! Are you having a hard time sticking to a plan? Do you find that you will be totally motivated for a few days and then lack any desire to workout? If this sounds like you, you may want to check out Unstoppable Fat Loss. It is an audio series filled with 42 interviews of people that have achieved amazing fat loss success. Their stories will blow your mind. These people had severe limiting beliefs and were able to overcome these limitations to achieve the body of their dreams. I’m sure you will be able to relate to many of the people on these calls.

Whatever you decide, the crucial thing is that you do HAVE A PLAN in place. You are willing to take in the extra calories on Thanksgiving, but you know you will need to burn them off in some way. GREAT! You are the winner here! You are going enjoy your meal, guilt free, BECAUSE you have taken the responsibility to come up with an action plan.

It all comes back down to the basics here folks…PROGRESS = BURN MORE CALORIES THAN CONSUMED.

Have an ‘Unstoppable Day!’

I have to admit that just a few years ago I never gave a second thought to hormones and the impact that they have on my health and my weight. But now that I’m in my 30’s I am taking my hormone levels seriously. I’m more aware of the little things that affect my hormone levels such as stress and lack of sleep. I’m also aware of the impact that my diet and exercise program has on my hormone levels as well.

I’m not going to stand here and pretend to be an expert on hormones and hormone therapy. But what I will do is introduce you to two of my friends who are experts on the topic. Jon Benson and Dr. Holly Lucille are here to inform you and educate you on the variety of natural methods to restore and repair your hormone levels.

This video clip is just a segment of the full NaturaPause Program which contains 6 audios, a step by step guide, the hormone handbook, and the information packed book “Creating Balance”.

The Natural Alternative To HRT

The NaturaPause program has been a huge eye opener for me. I feel extremely fortunate to be aware of this information before Angie or myself ever experience any form of hormone irregularity.

If you are concerned about hormone health even the slightest bit, I recommend that you make the wise investment in your health and life by visiting NaturaPause today!

This program is for both men and women and covers topics such as menopause, andropause, and sex drive for both men and women.

This is a very serious issue and we need more leaders like Dr. Holly Lucille and Jon Benson to spread the message of alternative hormone replacement therapy solutions.

I would love to hear your feedback on the video. Please leave your thoughts and opinions in the comment box below. Your comments mean the world to me.

Hello! This is a concern worldwide. How much mercury is in the fish? How many portions should I consume in a week? Where did the fish come from – ocean or farm raised? What does this mean?

From the recent research I did, this is what I can share with you:

1. Sardines and Herring – have the highest levels of omega 3 fats of all fish. A 3 oz. portion equals 1.3-2 g. of omega -3 fats.

2. Mackeral – choose a smaller fish, this will equal less mercury in it. Your best buy will be from sources: Atlantic (Boston), Pacific (Jack), and Spanish (Mack) because of the high levels of omega 3 fats and lowest levels of mercury. A 3 oz. portion = 1.1 to 1.7 g. of omega 3.

3. Salmon – 3 oz. portion = 0.9- 1.8 g. omega 3 fats. Choose from either WILD salmon or better yet, ALASKAN salmon which has cleaner water. A trustworthy farming company that has ‘raised salmon’ is the Atlantic Salmon of Maine.

4. Trout – MOST (use caution) trout farmers use vaccines instead of antibiotics in their fish. Which is better for us, the consumer, since we are not exposed to the antibiotics. Ask questions before you buy.

5. Tuna - canned tuna in water is best because it has less mercury compared to tuna steaks. Also less calories than canned tuna in oil.

Also, tuna steaks are NOT a good choice. They are very high in mercury because they come from older fish and have low levels of omega 3 fats.

Personally, we have at least 2 portions of fish per week. Usually, a trout and salmon. I have canned tuna once per week. If you are pregnant, you should consult your physician as to what is a safe amount of canned tuna to consume.

So why eat fish? Fish truly is ‘brain food.’ We need so much good fat in our diet for our bodies to function optimally. When you consume fish you are getting a your omega 3 fats from a ‘natural’ source. Researchers have discovered that eating 2 servings of fish per week will lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels will drop. You will also be less likely to suffer from cardiovascular disease. Another researcher found that if you eat fish on a regular basis ( 2 servings/week) you are 30% less likely to suffer from dementia.

I hope that this helps you to not only make wise fish choices but to also find the fish that you enjoy. The omega 3 fats found in fish are full of so many health benefits!

Cheers to health,

I don’t know of another women who doesn’t complain about cellulite. Yes, it’s definitely not the most attractive thing to look at and there are things you can do to diminish the appearance of cellulite. Yes, there is hope!

Do I have cellulite? Yes, I do! I do notice that it does diminish when I am seriously getting fit. I know that it used to appear more on the back of my thighs and now that I am following Nick Nilsson’s, “Gluteus to the Maximus” program, I am targeting my butt/thighs, which are the areas that I tend to carry my fat. I am gaining muscle here. I just know it because I am seeing lines that I’ve not seen before! My legs and butt just feel hard. It’s awesome because I have not tried to really put emphasis on these areas for awhile and now that I am, it’s great to see that it’s working in my favor!

So what is this dimply stuff? Well, cellulite is basically lumpy fat deposits. This fat behaves no differently from other fat; it is just straining against irregular bands of connective tissue.

As women, we genetically carry more fat in our thighs and hips to prepare for pregnancy and lactation. The dimpling is due to the deposit of fat and fibrous tissue.

The skin consists of two main layers, the outer epidermis and the inner dermis. Below the dermis lies the subcutaneous layer, which attaches the skin to the underlying tissues. This layer consists of loose connective tissue and a lot of adipose (fat) tissue. The dermis consists of dense connective tissue composed mainly of collagen fibers. Collagen is responsible for the mechanical strength of skin.

Unfortunately, we all vary in terms of the elasticity of our skin. Individuals who have cellulite have a dermis layer that has areas of less density, which results in the appearance of dimpling.

So…can you get rid of cellulite?? Well, you definitely CAN decrease the fat in your thighs and hips through a comprehensive, rational, and personalized nutritional and exercise program.

Further, deep massaging every night to break up the deposits of fat and fibrous tissue can help to temporarily decrease the appearance of cellulite.

Have a great workout!

Cheers to health,

Hi everyone, I just came across an article about the ‘Benefits of Drinking Water’ and I thought it was worth reading. Can you believe that 2/3 of our body weight is made up of water? Wow. Check out the benefits under the title, “Miracle Worker.” I know that many people shrug it off and keep drinking their sodas. However, this really should be taken seriously. It is so simple to do too. Once you get into a routine of drinking it, like everything else, it just becomes a habit.

I was also amazed at the results of a study that revealed those people who only drink 5 glasses of water per day were 41% LESS likely to die of a heart attack during the study as compared to those people who only drank 2 glasses of water per day.

Hi everyone, I have just read an article in the U.S. Today that concluded your risk of dementia is 3. 6 times higher if you carry excess body fat around your waist. Researchers have already proven that excess weight in belly area will increase your risk of diabetes, stroke, and heart disease. However, this is the first study to reveal that it also increases your chances of getting dementia. This includes Alzheimer’s Disease- an incurable brain disease.

” But even people who’d kept close tabs on overall body weight were at risk if they sported a spare tire: They were 1.8 times more likely to develop dementia compared with people who were lean all over. The study appears in today’s online edition of Neurology.”

You can read more about this is at: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2008-03-26-belly-dementia_n.htm

This is obviously not just about the weight, but more importantly WHERE you carry the weight on your body. The abdominal region carries its own unique fat cells that secrete certain hormones which play a vital role in developing these diseases.

THE POSITIVE SIDE:

You CAN change your body shape through nutrition and exercise! People may have beliefs that this is where they carry their excess weight and they can never change it. This is not true! Anyone and everyone can modify the shape of their body through a sound nutrition program and proper exercise.

I myself and my husband, Scott, follow the Every Other Day Diet. We have achieved tremendous fat loss results and feel totally amazing! We have never followed any other ‘diet’ in our life. The reason why we decided to try this program was because we had become too relaxed with our body and had put on some excess weight over the years. I have 2 children, 6 and 4 , and wanted to have the body that I had before pregnancy! Scott had gained 35 pounds over the past year and really needed to shed that off!

So you do have the power within you to make a change NOW in your life so that you will live a life of quality.

Have a fantastic day!

Cheers to health,
